Basic Coastal Navigation

Description

Sail Canada has two Coastal Navigation standards: Basic Coastal Navigation and Intermediate Coastal Navigation.

Coastal Navigation is an essential part of your seamanship toolbox. It is essential for you to know where you are going, how to get there safely, and what to do when plans change! A Coastal Navigation certification is also a requirement for many charter companies. If you are hoping to one day sail off into the sunset, this course is for you!

Course Format Five online modules of filmed lessons, two group interactive Zoom sessions (Part A Intro and Part B Exam prep), and practice exercises with instructor feedback.

Course Materials Provided

• Textbook
• Chart 3463 (Strait of Georgia, Southern Portion)
• plotting tools (parallel rule, dividers, pencil, eraser)

Schedule

Your specific course schedule will be emailed to you when you sign up, however this is how the course is structured for your online meetings and Exam dates:

• Week 1: 4 pm Home Study Course Orientation (1 hour)
• Week 2: 4 pm Home Study Live Lesson #1 (1 hour)
• Week 4: 4 pm Home Study Live Lesson #2 (1 hour)
• Week 5: 4 pm Exam (3 hours – remote)
• Week 7: 4 pm Exam & Course Debrief (1 hour)
