Sail Nelson has created an annual award in the memory of our friend and fellow sailor Travis McGregor. Travis was a true lover of all things water and was known for his exemplary seamanship skills.
What are seamanship skills?
Seamanship is the art of operating a boat. It involves the ongoing development of specialized boating skills including: navigation, maritime law, weather, ropework, communication and boat-handling. Above all, seamanship means safety onboard through the implementation of good boating practices.
Who is eligible to receive this award?
All Sail Nelson students who demonstrate sound seamanship skills and attention to safety on water during the sailing season, will be considered for this award. All courses are also considered, not just on-water sailing courses.
