Coastal Navigation

Sail Canada has introduced two new Coastal Navigation standards: Basic and Intermediate. These two standards used to be one course, however they have now been divided into two, more comprehensive, standards.

OBJECTIVE: To be able to plan and to safely navigate by day in Canadian coastal and inland local waters.

Sail Canada Basic Coastal Navigation Standard

A) Classroom Study

The hands-on classroom Coastal Navigation course will run one evening per week for seven weeks. Participants will learn the basics of navigation including plotting, labelling, tide & current table calculations, bearings, fixes, and much more!

Basic Coastal Navigation

*** NEW DATES *** Course will run on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Starting on April 6 and ending on April 29 (no class on April 20). Format: Monday & Wednesday evenings from 6 - 9 pm Cost: $375 + GST (includes all learning materials & exam)

B) Home Study 

Register through coastalnavigation.com. Once you have successfully completed your online course you will need to book your exam through Sail Nelson. Please contact us for details.

CERTIFICATIONS AWARDED: Once you have successfully completed the online course and exam, you will be awarded the Basic Coastal Navigation standard. Note that the Sail Canada logbook is not included in the course fees, but it can be purchased for an additional $40.
